Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Longboat Key Club?

The Longboat Key Club is a private membership club connected with The Resort at Longboat Key Club. It offers access to golf, tennis, beach and pool facilities, dining, spa services, fitness amenities, social events, marina access, and other resort-style features on Longboat Key.

Is the Longboat Key Club private?

Yes. The Longboat Key Club is a private club. Access to many of its amenities generally requires club membership, resort guest access, or another approved form of access through the club.

Do you automatically become a member if you buy a home near the Longboat Key Club?

No. Buying a home or condo near the Longboat Key Club does not automatically make you a club member. Membership is typically separate from property ownership and includes its own application process, initiation fee, annual dues, and membership category.

Are homes inside the Longboat Key Club area required to have club membership?

Not necessarily. Some homes and condos may be located near, within, or behind gated areas associated with the Longboat Key Club area, but that does not always mean membership is required or included. Buyers should verify the details for the specific property, association, and membership category before making assumptions.

Can visitors use the Longboat Key Club?

Visitors may be able to use certain Longboat Key Club amenities depending on how they are accessing the property. For example, resort guests may have access to resort amenities during their stay, and club members may be able to bring guests under the club’s guest policies. However, regular access to private club amenities generally requires membership, resort guest access, or another approved form of access.

If you are planning to host family or friends, it is important to confirm the current guest rules directly with the club, including any limits, guest fees, blackout dates, golf or tennis restrictions, and whether guests must be accompanied by a member.

Isn’t the Longboat Key Club area gated and only accessible to residents?

Parts of the Longboat Key Club area are gated, and certain residential communities may have controlled access. However, being inside or near a gated area is not the same thing as being a member of the Longboat Key Club.

A home or condo may be located behind a gate, near the golf course, or close to club facilities, but club membership is typically separate. Gated access may relate to a specific neighborhood, condo association, road, or residential area, while club access is governed by the Longboat Key Club’s separate membership rules.

Buyers should verify two separate things before purchasing:

  • Whether the property or community has gated access

  • Whether Longboat Key Club membership is included, optional, required, or completely separate

This distinction is especially important for buyers who want golf, beach club, tennis, dining, fitness, or marina privileges.

How do you join the Longboat Key Club?

Prospective members can contact the Longboat Key Club membership office or submit a membership inquiry through the club. Membership options, availability, pricing, and privileges may vary, so it is best to confirm current details directly with the club.

What types of memberships are available?

The Longboat Key Club has offered several membership categories, including Full, Golf, Tennis, and Social memberships. Each category may include different privileges for golf, tennis, beach access, pool access, dining, fitness, spa amenities, events, and marina-related benefits.

What amenities does the Longboat Key Club offer?

Depending on the membership category, amenities may include golf, tennis, pickleball, beach and pool facilities, restaurants and lounges, spa services, fitness facilities, social events, marina access, and other resort-style amenities.

Does the Longboat Key Club have golf?

Yes. The Longboat Key Club is known for its golf amenities, including multiple courses and practice facilities. Golf access depends on membership category, resort guest status, availability, and current club rules.

Does the Longboat Key Club have tennis and pickleball?

Yes. The club offers tennis facilities and has also offered pickleball opportunities. Access, court availability, and related fees may depend on the type of membership and current club policies.

Does the Longboat Key Club have beach access?

Yes. Certain membership categories may include access to beach and pool facilities. However, buyers should confirm exactly what beach access is included with each membership type before joining.

Does the Longboat Key Club have a marina?

Yes. The Longboat Key Club is associated with Longboat Key Club Moorings and Marina Village amenities. Marina-related access and dockage privileges may vary depending on membership category and availability.

How much does it cost to join the Longboat Key Club?

Membership costs can vary by category and may include an initiation fee, annual dues, taxes, usage fees, and other charges. Because fees can change, buyers should confirm current pricing directly with the Longboat Key Club.

Are Longboat Key Club fees included in HOA or condo fees?

Usually, club membership fees are separate from HOA or condo association fees. A community’s HOA or condo fees may cover association amenities, maintenance, insurance, reserves, or community expenses, but that does not necessarily include Longboat Key Club membership. Always verify the details for the specific property.

Can non-members use the Longboat Key Club?

Access for non-members may be limited. Some amenities may be available to resort guests, event guests, marina users, or others with approved access, but regular use of private club amenities generally requires membership or resort access.

Is Longboat Key Club membership worth it?

It depends on your lifestyle. Membership may be especially appealing if you plan to use the golf, tennis, beach, pool, fitness, dining, spa, marina, or social amenities regularly. If you are buying a home on Longboat Key, it is worth comparing the cost of membership with how often you expect to use the club.

Should I buy near the Longboat Key Club if I do not plan to join?

You can still buy near the Longboat Key Club without joining, depending on the property and community. Many buyers like the area for its location, scenery, nearby beaches, gated communities, and proximity to St. Armands Circle and Sarasota. However, if club amenities are important to your lifestyle, you should confirm membership availability and costs before purchasing.

What should buyers verify before purchasing near the Longboat Key Club?

Before buying, confirm whether club membership is included, optional, required, transferable, or completely separate from the property. Buyers should also verify current initiation fees, annual dues, usage privileges, HOA or condo fees, rental rules, pet policies, and any community-specific restrictions.
